Just like me, my sister loves geckos. After all, aren’t they some of the cutest little creatures? I decided to broaden my horizons and give quilling a break whilst I experiment with other mediums. I’ve already made a card for Mother’s Day, and now it was time to make a card for my sister’s birthday.
Tuesday the 26th of May was Mother’s Day in Poland. Ever since I discovered the joy of quilling, every card I ever made used that technique. Recently however, I’ve been feeling adventurous with painting and decided to make a card with watercolours. I didn’t go too crazy with the picture, I thought keeping it simple would be the best idea giving my watercolours experience (or the lack of it, ha!).
It’s been a looong time since I last did any type of crafts. After moving out from my family house and starting a new life abroad I’ve been busy trying to figure out the adult life in the rare moments of spare time. Autumn has always seen a downfall of crafting for me – all of the occasions such as Mother’s Day or family members’ birthdays fall between March and July, so I usually do most of my cardmaking in that period. My dad’s birthday comes first, so his birthday card is typically my first quilling craft in the year.
You probably know it already, but I’ll say it just in case: Christmas is just around the corner. Some of us have already finished their Christmas gift shopping. Others, perhaps, still haven’t even started. Whichever group you belong to, you might want to add some original, simple DIY gifts to your list. The idea I’m bringing you today will be perfect to use as a gift for someone who loves to bake. It’s very flexible too, so you can easily adjust it to further personalise this little present. The thing I’m talking about is a DIY cookie mix in a jar.

December for me is usually filled with cooking and baking. Honestly, it feels like I barely leave the kitchen! If it wasn’t for work, I’d likely build a pillow fortress in the kitchen for December, to stay there even for those rare times when I decide to get some sleep. This time, I took a short break from playing with food and decided to work on a little inedible project for the Christmas table – cutlery bands!
The majority of special occasions in my family fall in the first half of the year. Grandmother’s Day, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, birthdays of all my family members. I need so many cards! I wasn’t able to post for a while, so I’ve gathered the photos of some of the cards I made in the last few months. Naturally, all of them were done with my favourite technique – quilling.
Today, I thought I’d share one of the DIY projects I’m most proud of. Not because the result is outstanding (my first and, for now, last sewing project), but because the result is surprisingly decent, given the difficulties I had. Unfortunately, I don’t have the instructions or templates. At the time of making this pillow, I wanted to film the whole process. Sadly, it turned out the camera I had wasn’t capable of filming in decent quality. Such a shame, looking back – I so wish I had that footage!
A while ago, I decided to let my long-forgotten watercolours shine and spent an afternoon playing with them. I created a few simple bookmarks that day and was left with some scraps of watercolour paper which I didn’t want to go to waste. So, without a real plan, I made a few little tags. They’re really tiny – 3.5x5cm – but I think they’d look okay used as gift tags, perhaps?

I don’t know about your countries, but mine is now entering the carnival period. Christmas officially ended a few days ago, and the time before Lent is supposed to host colourful, jolly parties. Our celebrations aren’t as prominent as those you’d see in Brazil though, and the group that has the most fun are… children! I’ve no idea where this concept originated, but almost all kindergartens and primary schools organise fancy dress parties for the little ones in carnival here. The project I’m coming with today would have made me so happy 20 years ago! Here’s how, in a few simple steps, you can make a wand – perfect to go along a wizard costume, looking like it was nicked straight from a Harry Potter filming set!
