I love Christmas, and one of my favourite things about the festive season is decorating my home. I can’t do much in a small, rented flat, but I try to get creative with my damage-free decorations, as I can’t install any hooks on the walls. One of the things I really wanted to do was decorate my door. Ideally, I pictured a beautiful wreath adorning my door. Unfortunately, over-the-door removable hooks don’t fit between my door and the frame, and I can’t drill a permanent hook into the door. So, I came up with a different idea, and I’m in love with the final result! I came up with a way to hang a DIY Christmas garland on my door, in a way that’s stable, secure, and completely damage free. Here is how I did that!

DIY Mini Hedgehog Crochet Set – Learning To Crochet
Learning to crochet was one of my New Year’s Resolutions for 2025. I thought it would be great to be able to turn a ball of yarn into any shape imaginable. Well, I’m still miles from being able to create my own patterns, but I’ve made good progress learning various types of stitches, and successfully completed about 10 small projects in the last few months. This time, I’d like to show you my latest creation – a cute hedgehog, which taught me how to add interesting texture to a crocheted piece. As usually, I got an assorted set in TK Maxx for a bargain price.

When I was still at the very beginning of my crocheting journey, I got carried away buying assorted DIY kits for simple crochet projects. I’m still far from being a crocheting pro, but I’ve learnt a lot since then and can finish simple projects in close to no time, without the need to look at tutorials. I’m still going through the stash of sets I bought a few months ago, and recently, I crocheted a simple watermelon keychain. And although it was a very basic project, it still taught me a lesson. Here’s some crochet inspiration, and a great candidate for a first crochet project!

We may be in between two festive periods – Halloween and Christmas – but it’s never a bad time for a generic crafty project. This time, I completed yet another cross stitch piece from an assorted kit, depicting a floral cat. I got it in TKMaxx, like most of the assorted craft kits, and for around £2. It was a good use of money – kept me busy for a couple of hours!

Happy Halloween, almost! The spooky day is tomorrow, and what could be a better way to celebrate it than completing a themed, Halloween DIY project. This time, I had just the perfect one – I completed a cross stitch design featuring a classic Jack-o’-lantern. The final result looks cute, but cross stitching it wasn’t plain sailing. It turned out to be yet another assorted cross stitch kit with insufficient supplies. Luckily, I managed to figure out a solution.

Happy Halloween week! Today, I’m coming with my most recently completed crochet project – a cute ghost with a pink bowler hat. One of my New Year’s Resolutions for 2025 was to learn to crochet, and I think it’s going well. I bought an assorted DIY set with the pattern and all supplies, so it’s not my original design. But, if you’re a seasoned crocheter, I’m sure you can still take inspiration from this design. It definitely put my beginner skills to test, but overall, I think it was a success!

I love trying out various creative projects all year round, but I enjoy it even more around the holidays – a themed, seasonal project just feels that little bit better. I always check out the seasonal aisles in craft stores, and this year, two similar sets caught my attention: one for making a wooden pumpkin (bought in the Works), and one for making a miniature wooden haunted house (purchased in Hobbycraft). I recently completed both projects – here is how it went!

I’ve been on a cross stitching journey for almost two years now, but it was only a couple of months ago when I first discovered half stitching. In Hobbycraft, I saw this assorted DIY kit for making an embroidered case for glasses, using a half stitching technique. I was intrigued! I loved the idea of trying a fun variation of traditional cross stitching, and I particularly loved the idea of making a functional item in the process. I bought the kit, and recently got around to sewing my embroidered sachet with a colourful forest design. It was really fun and satisfying, and I love the final result!

Happy spooky month! I feel like it’s now officially acceptable to start celebrating the Halloween season. Well, frankly, Halloween isn’t that huge in the UK, to my surprise. Still, there are some seasonal sweets and home decorations in the stores, and I enjoy a holiday period, no matter the holiday! So naturally, in October, I usually like to do some Halloween themed crafts or cook themed recipes. This time, I completed a mini cross stitch project featuring a skull with colourful flowers. Probably more in the style of Dia de los Muertes rather than Halloween, but the two are celebrated at the same time of year. So, here’s the first of this year’s Halloween DIY projects!
