I love a Saturday day trip by train. I try to get out of town a couple of times a month at least, and have visited plenty of amazing places in recent years, always travelling on public transport. So today, I’m bringing you a list of my favourite day trips from London. I hope this gives you ideas for your next weekend away! This list has everything: long nature walks, famous cliffs, castles, stunning architecture, and much more. For each day trip idea I linked my previous posts with more details about them.

Whitstable To Margate Walk – England Coast Path Trail – Very Long Walk Near London By Train
Today, I’m taking you on another long walk along the English Coast Path. This time, I covered the section between Whitstable and Margate in Kent. I managed to go on so many hikes and long walks this summer, I have a bit of a backlog of posts about them! This trip is from the beginning of August, when the days were still long, and we were in the middle of what felt like a never-ending heatwave and draught. This walk was 35 kilometres long and allowed me to check off a section of the English Coast Path that I hadn’t done before. Here’s how the trip went!

Here’s a summary of summer 2026, with lots of photos from London and beyond!

A few weeks ago, I posted about my long walk along the Thames Path in west London, between Fulham Palace and Richmond. It was a lovely day and I enjoyed walking down the peaceful trail along the river. Today, I’m taking you on another section of the Thames Path. I walked from Hampton to Richmond. I explored areas of London I’ve not been to before, and I was amazed by them. I admired fancy houses by the river, watched a bit of a rowing competition, and enjoyed a delicious coffee. It was a perfect summer day in London, and here is how it went.

I love hikes and (very) long walks. If you look at my posts on this blog, I often post about my day trip hikes all around England. I walk half-marathons pretty much every weekend, and sometimes do even longer hikes, including marathon distances in a day. I love it! But the one thing that would limit me in the past was my tendency to catch back injuries, especially after strenuous exercise. So, over the last few years, I paid close attention to all the little details during my hikes and walks, and I made some observations. Since then, being aware of those little things, my post-hike recovery has improved greatly. Sure – I might still suffer from a slightly stiff back the next day, but it’s nothing compared to struggling to get up from a chair, which would happen in the past. Here are all the things that allowed me to enjoy long hikes without suffering the next day. The last tip is the most important!
