Seasonal recipes are definitely my favourite. In the autumn, I typically reach for plums, apples, and cinnamon for sweet recipes, and bell pepper and squash for savoury ones. Today, I’d like to share with you a delicious recipe for sweet pastries with plums. They’re high in protein, low in fat, and you can prepare them in 10 minutes! It’s a foolproof recipe that’s never failed me. You need to give it a go!
A word about curd cheese and plums
This recipe calls for curd cheese, popular in eastern and central Europe. I recommend checking Polish or Eastern European stores. In the UK, curd cheese can be found in most large supermarkets – I buy it in Morrisons, Sainsbury’s, or Tesco.
The plums used in this recipe are the variety popular back in my home country, Poland, but I recently saw them appear in British stores too. I bought a punnet of these British-grown plums in M&S. They’re small and have an oblong shape, and they’re much softer and sweeter than the popular imported plums that look like perfectly round balls. I assume that regular plums would work for this recipe too, but I haven’t tried it.

Ingredients for high protein low fat plum pastries
For 4 high protein plum curd cheese pastries you’ll need:
- 250g fat-free curd cheese
- 1 cup (135g) plain flour
- 1.5 teaspoon baking powder
- 1.5 tablespoon sugar
- 2 eggs
- 2 teaspoons potato starch or corn starch
- dash of vanilla extract
- 3- 4 plums
- 1-2 teaspoons ground almonds (optional)
How to make high protein plum pastries
Pre-heat the oven to 180°C (355°F).
First, transfer the curd cheese to a bowl. Curd cheese is quite dry and crumbly, and it’s usually sold pressed into a block. Mash it with a fork to break it up into small crumbs.
Add eggs, flour, baking powder, sugar, starch, and vanilla. Mix everything with a fork until you have uniform, sticky batter.
Line a baking sheet with greaseproof paper. Split the batter into 4 parts and form 4 flat circles on the lined baking sheet – about 1cm thick.
I typically do that with a spoon to avoid getting my hands dirty. Remove the stones from the plums. Chop up the plums into small chunks, and place them on top of the batter.
Sprinkle each pastry with a tiny amount of ground almonds. This is mainly for garnish – you can skip it.
Bake your protein plum pastries in 180°C (355°F) for around 30 minutes, until golden. Cooking time might vary depending on the oven. Let them cool down a bit before serving – plums contain a lot of moisture, the fruit will be piping hot!
Serve sprinkled with icing sugar. Enjoy!

How to store high protein low fat plum pastries
If you don’t eat all 4 when still hot, let them cool down and then store them in the fridge. Heat them up in the oven for a few minutes before serving.
I haven’t tried freezing these protein plum pastries.

Ingredient swaps
Whilst the plum version of these pastries is delicious, you can experiment with other fruits too! I recently made them with plums and red currants, and it was a delicious combo. I’m also thinking to try making them with apricots or caramelised apples – I’m particularly curious about the latter! The batter for the base of these pastries is the foundation, but you can try various toppings.
Bon Appetit!
