We’re now 3 days into 2019. I’m sure a lot of you have started the year with long lists of resolutions. And I’m sure some of those resolutions were to get back on track with healthy eating and repair the damage done by overeating during Christmas season. If you happen to be looking for a healthy snack, an alternative to store-bought potato crisps, then making vegetable crisps at home can be a great idea. They’re much, much healthier, super easy to make, and you can use many different vegetables instead of regular, boring potatoes. Here’s a recipe for home-made, healthy, oven-baked sweet potato crisps. So, so delicious and crispy! A great idea for a party snack too – just increase the ingredients accordingly.
For 1 serving – a small bowl – you’ll need:
- 1 medium sweet potato
- 1 tablespoon of olive oil
- seasoning: salt, pepper, paprika, herbs of your choice
Preheat the oven to 130ΒΊC.
Peel and finely slice the potato – the thinner the slices, the better. Place them in a bowl, drizzle with olive oil and season generously. With your hands, stir the contents of the bowl so that the oil and seasoning are evenly distributed.
Line a baking tray with baking paper. Place the potato slices on the tray, trying to avoid overlapping as much as possible.
Bake for 1.5-2 hours – until dry and crispy (the time needed will depend on your oven as well as the thickness of your slices). Every 30 minutes, take the tray out of the oven and stir the crisps, turning them over.
Enjoy! π
I definitely recommend making a bigger batch, or preparing a few types of crisps at the same time – an oven running for 2 hours uses a lot of energy so let’s use it wisely!

They look delish Alphe, I prefer regular taters though. Crisps or chips? β€οΈ

I’ve recently been loving sweet potatoes, but regular ones are great too, of course! π
Are you asking about the spelling or my preferences? If the spelling/nomenclature, I’m generally loyal to British versions. In terms of preferences, I don’t think I can choose between crisps and chips, I love both!

I just think itβs so fun that we share a common language yet have slight differences in certain ways. β€οΈ

It’s interesting but at the same time a little annoying – when you don’t live in an English-speaking country you get bombarded with all different versions of the language and none of them seems ‘natural’ to you (because the language itself isn’t your native one). So as a result, it’s really difficult to stay consistent and use one version instead of mixing them all!

I see, that would be annoying. I thought you lived in England.

“Try to avoid overlapping as much as possible”
Else it’s gonna be “Sweet potato Spirals”π

I mean, that would still be tasty, but it would take ages to bake properly ;D

Have you tried a spicy sweet potato stew? Not the most popular thing to make with sweet potatoes but it’s soooo good! After discovering sweet potatoes a few months ago (I know, late!) I’ve been using them for the most ridiculous ideas and somehow they always work!
