DIY Mini Cross Stitch Set – Autumn Tree

DIY Mini Cross Stitch Set – Autumn Tree

In my quest to reduce the amount of DIY supplies in my stash (part of my New Year’s Resolutions), I’m slowly working through the cross stitch kits. This time, I completed a small design, perfect for this time of year – a cross stitched autumn tree. With just six colours, this was one of the easiest cross stitch sets I’ve worked on, but I love how it turned out!

Contents of the set

This set came with all necessary supplies: a blank canvas, a plastic embroidery hoop, threads in assorted colours, a needle, a threader, and a leaflet with the pattern.

Starting off – tree and red leaves

I started in the most reasonable way – by sewing the brown tree trunk. It didn’t take me long to complete all branches. I also reached for a red thread and added the leaves. This took me a bit longer – I cut the thread when moving between the leaves most of the time. I also tried to be careful when counting the squares to avoid mistakes.

Adding colourful leaves – green and orange

Then, I reached for the green thread to sew the next batch of leaves. Like before, I had to be careful when counting the squares – I didn’t want to mess up! I suppose the placement of individual leaves doesn’t matter too much, but I still wanted to follow the pattern as well as I could.

I then used the orange thread to cross stitch the next group of leaves. The tree was coming to life! In real life, colourful leaves would gradually fall, leaving a bare tree. Here, I was doing the opposite! More and more colourful leaves were filling the branches.

Final details – brown and dark red leaves

Next, I reached for the dark red thread. Well, according to the pattern, the dark red thread was supposed to be maroon. In reality, it was almost identical to the lighter red colour that I already used to sew some leaves.

I added the second group of red leaves, and then moved to the brown ones. And soon, the autumn tree cross stitch project was finished! And I can check off another project from my vast stash of DIY supplies.

Final thoughts

I wish the colours of the thread included in the set were more distinct – the orange was quite similar to the brown, and the two shades of red were nearly identical. Other than that, I like the design – it’s quite cute! Seasonal DIY projects are always my favourites, and an autumnal design was perfect for this time of year. Some of my other autumnal DIY projects include a wooden pumpkin ornament and a crochet hedgehog.
