Today, I’m taking you to my favourite event in London’s calendar. The mighty Lambeth Country Show, a family-friendly weekend festival taking place annually in Brockwell Park in south London since 1974. That’s right – it’s been going strong for 50 years, which is the best testimony an event can have. Over 120,000 people visit the festival over the weekend each year. And by the way, it’s completely free to enter!
I first learnt about Lambeth Country Show in 2022 and wanted to check it out. I had no idea what to expect and ended up going on a Sunday afternoon, thinking it would be enough time to see all the attractions. Oh boy, I was wrong. The following year, I went there right before the opening time and still barely managed to fully discover everything the Lambeth Country Show had to offer. This year, I’m thinking of spending two days there to hopefully get to see everything without the need to rush it.

When is Lambeth Country Show 2024
In 2024, the festival will take place on June 8th and 9th, between 1pm and 9pm.
What can you find at Lambeth Country Show
The lineup changes between the years, but here’s what I experienced on the two years I visited the festival so far.
Main arena shows
The main arena was home to numerous shows running throughout the day. From bird of prey displays to kids presenting motorcycle tricks, there will be something for everyone. Some of my favourite shows were cavalry performances with horse riders showing stunt tricks in medieval clothing – along a captivating storyline – and a presentation of shepherd’s dogs instinctively guiding sheep.
Farm animals
The show is usually visited by animals from London Vauxhall City Farm. If you’ve been following my blog, you may know that I love London’s urban farms. So naturally, a festival visited by our furry friends from one of the farms will score bonus points in my eyes.
Lambeth Country Show typically also welcomes rare breeds of sheep that you can admire in a sheltered area where they can rest away from the summer heat.
I’ve also seen a demonstration of sheep shearing. It looked rather horrifying, but I’m sure the sheep was grateful afterwards. The thick coat must have been exhausting in the hot weather!
Vegetable sculptures
One of the visitors’ favourite attractions is the annual vegetable sculpture competition. You can vote for your favourite sculpture on the show’s Instagram, but most importantly, you can appreciate them live at the show. There always tends to be a long queue of people wanting to see those works of art. And the sense of humour of their authors is incredible too!
Live music
No festival can go without live music. There’s a large scene with artists performing all day long at Lambeth Country Show. The rhythms aren’t typically my cup of tea, but they seem to attract large crowds.
Fun fair
For the little ones, there’s typically a fairly big fun fair at Lambeth Country Show. Adrenaline seeking adults will find something for themselves too, with frightening swings and other scary rides.
Street food
You’ll find plenty of street food options at the festival. Whether you prefer Greek, Jamaican or Asian cuisine, you’ll find something for yourself. The most popular options may require waiting in a long queue, especially at peak time (3-4pm).
Independent traders
There are also shopping options at the festival, with independent vendors selling their products from clothing to cosmetics, jewellery and foods. Have a stroll through the stalls and see if something catches your eye.
Other wonders
There are also plenty of other attractions at Lambeth Country Show every year. For example, last year I had a chance to view a Wall of Death performance – a show in which motorcycle drivers drove in circles on a vertical wall, often times hands-free! This spectacular performance doubles as a physics lesson, where you can see the centripetal force in action, and even as a spectator you’ll feel an adrenaline kick. It was an incredible show, but frightening to watch at times.
See you at Lambeth Country Show!
So, if you’re still wondering whether to visit Lambeth Country Show – don’t think twice, just come and see for yourself! It’s free to enter, and with the numerous attractions, you’re pretty much guaranteed to find something that will catch your attention. Keep an eye on the official website (https://www.lambethcountryshow.co.uk/) to get the latest info about the line-up and visitor information. Personally, I can’t wait for the 50th anniversary Lambeth Country Show 2024 – taking place in just two weeks. See you there!
