DIY Cross Stitch Kit – Flowers – Daffodils, Tulips And Roses

DIY Cross Stitch Kit – Flowers – Daffodils, Tulips And Roses

Spring is just around the corner and I was in the mood for cross stitching a fresh, floral design. Luckily, I had one at hand! My most recently finished cross stitch project – from a pre-assorted DIY kit – features colourful flowers: daffodils, roses and tulips. I enjoyed sewing this vibrant picture, it felt perfect for this time of year. The kit didn’t let me down, with plenty enough yarn included. Yet another sewing success!

Contents of the kit

Let’s start by taking a look at the contents of the kit. It came with a plastic hoop, a blank, white aida, yarn in assorted colours, a couple of needles, a handy threader and a leaflet with the diagram and cross stitching instructions. As always, I’m impressed with how much you can get for around ~£3. Those assorted cross stitching kits are a bargain!

Starting off

I immediately proceeded to sewing, but this time, I decided to follow a different strategy than I usually do. Instead of moving colour by colour, I decided to create a kind of a cross stitching colouring page. The design just asked for it! I started by sewing the outline of all the flowers, and soon had a silhouette of the daffodils, tulips and roses in place.

Outlines – done!

I continued sewing and added the dark purple details of the small flowers, as well as the dark green outline of the leaves. And just like that, all the outlines were done! I could see the design come to life.

Filling the flowers

Next, it was time to start filling the flowers with colours. It was a smooth and relaxing process, as most of the time I didn’t need to refer to the diagram. I could simply sew inside the shapes that were already on the canvas. I really enjoyed doing that in the evening, when my brain was too tired to count the squares and triple check the design diagram.

Almost there

It wasn’t long until all of the large flowers were completed – the daffodils, tulips and roses were finished, and I only had the purple and green details left to sew.

Another project finished

The final details took a bit longer to sew, especially the leaves – I had to refer to the diagram all the time and count the squares. The light green colour of the yarn is a bit too light for my liking, to be honest. I wish it was a tiny bit more vibrant! It doesn’t stand out from the white canvas very well, unfortunately. Plus, sewing those light green details was a bit challenging in the evenings, because I couldn’t see what I was doing very well in artificial light. But anyway, after a few evenings, the design was completed!

Final thoughts

So, yet another cross stitch design was successfully completed! I enjoyed sewing this picture, especially filling in the large areas inside the flowers, having previously completed the outlines. It was so relaxing! The design itself probably isn’t one of my favourites, there have been others I enjoyed a bit more. But luckily, the yarn provided in this kit was sufficient and I didn’t run out of any of the colours, which I’m always worried about. It was a suitable design for this time of year, as my thoughts are in the spring already. There are daffodils in my local park already, and I hope tulips will flower soon as well. About time for the winter to finish!
