DIY Cross Stitch Kit – Flamingo

DIY Cross Stitch Kit – Flamingo

If you thought I’d be done with cross stitching by now, surprise! My addiction continues strong as ever. This time, I completed probably the quickest design to date – a cute flamingo. With just four colours and a straightforward design, it only took me one afternoon to complete.

The kit I bought was by the same brand as most of my recent cross stitch projects. It was actually on sale and only cost me just over £2 for the whole kit. Not bad, considering that a single skein of yarn can be around £1.50. As usual, the kit included a blank aida, a plastic hoop, yarn in assorted colours, needles, a threader and a leaflet with instructions.

Without further ado, I got down to business and started cross stitching with the lightest shade of pink and soon had the first block of colour done.

Then, I moved on to the next two shades of pink. In no time, I could see the shape of the flamingo come to life.

Finally, I added the brown details and the flamingo cross stitch design was completed.

Fortunately, unlike with some of my previous cross stitch projects, I didn’t encounter any issues around the colours of the yarn provided in the kit or the amounts of it. I breezed through this flamingo design in just a couple of hours. It was by far the simplest design I’ve completed so far. With only four colours, I could quickly sew large blocks of colours without the need to constantly switch yarn. The simple design almost completely free of small details required minimal square counting, which also sped up the process.

As always, I definitely recommend those DIY cross stitch kits to beginners wanting to take their first steps in this craft. The kits include all the tools and supplies you need to complete a cross stitch project. This particular flamingo design was probably the most beginner friendly of all the projects I’ve worked on. If you’d like to try cross stitching and see this design in a shop, I highly recommend giving it a go!
