Continuing with Valentine’s Day crafts (you know that I love a seasonal DIY!), I recently completed yet another cross stitch project, from a kit I bought at TK Maxx. This mini set featured a cute jar filled with hearts. If that’s not a perfect DIY project for February evenings, I don’t know what is! I had fun cross stitching this design and managed to complete the project with no issues.
Contents of the kit
As always, let’s start by having a look at the contents of this assorted cross stitch set. It came with an embroidery hoop, a blank aida, threads in assorted colours, a needle, a threader, and a leaflet with instructions. I bought this set in TK Maxx for around £2.

Starting off – tackling the worst part first
Usually, my least favourite part of cross stitch projects is sewing large areas of monochromatic backgrounds. It’s just a little boring, frankly!
So, I decided to do it first, leaving the fun, colourful elements for later. I started sewing the grey area in the middle of the jar. It was a bit tedious, but I actually didn’t hate it. At least I still had to exercise my brain and count the squares.
I also added the outline of the cloth on top of the jar. And just like that, after completing two colours, you could see the overall shape of the design.

Continuing – first touches of colour
Next, I finally reached for one of the vibrant pink threads. I cross stitched the first few hearts, and the picture immediately looked a lot better. I also filled in the background of the cloth on top of the jar, and the tag on the side.

Adding more colours
Then, I decided to sew more hearts and the ribbon on the jar. I also added some of the grey shadows on the jar. The project was nearly completed!

Final touches
It was time to add the last two colours, which didn’t take long at all. Soon, yet another cross stitch project was finished. I’m rather surprised, to be honest, that after over 2 years of regular cross stitching, I still really enjoy it!
Seasonal crafts are my favourite, and I had fun this year completing a few projects. Since Valentine’s Day is just a couple of days away, let me quickly remind you that I posted an idea for an easy 5-minute DIY card. I also posted about a wooden 3D flower bouquet, which would make a great Valentine’s Day gift.
