5-Minute DIY Valentine’s Day Card Idea – Heart Stickers

Valentine’s Day is just around the corner, and if you have someone to celebrate it with, why not make them a DIY card? Handmade gifts come across as thoughtful, and they’re really fun to make. In previous years, I already shared a few ideas for DIY Valentine’s Day cards. The one I’d like to show you today requires pretty much no artistic skills, and can be done in 5 minutes. Just make sure to buy the supplies beforehand!

Things you’ll need to make a simple Valentine’s Day card

To make this simple Valentine’s Day card, you’ll need:

  • A blank card – I chose one made of brown paper, but feel free to choose a colour you prefer. You can buy folded card blanks in craft stores, or you can make one yourself by folding a piece of thick paper.
  • Colourful heart-shaped stickers. They should be easy to find in stores before Valentine’s Day! If your card base is small, go for small stickers. If your card is large, you should probably choose XXL stickers.
  • Black liner pens. I used one fine liner and a Sharpie for thicker lines.
  • Pencil (optional). I mapped the placement of the stickers on the card with a pencil, but that’s totally optional. If you trust your design skills, just go with the flow.

How to make an easy Valentine’s Day card

I started by marking the placement of the stickers with a pencil. I made sure to draw small symbols, to then cover them with the stickers without having to erase them. The overall idea behind the design of this card is to make hearts on strings (balloons?), tied together like a bouquet. So, the hearts should be closer together at the bottom of the card, and fan out at the top. Leave some space at the bottom for the bow!

Once I was happy with the design, I placed the first few stickers – those on the outside of the bunch. I then marked the point where all strings would be tied together, and drew lines from the bottoms of the hearts to the connection point and beyond. I used a fine liner for it and deliberately made the lines a little uneven and imperfect.

Then, I added a few more stickers and added more strings. The reason why I didn’t place all stickers down at once is that it’s easier to draw the lines when they don’t need to go” behind” any of already placed stickers.

I then repeated the process one more time, adding the final stickers and strings, and the card was nearly finished.

The final step was drawing a bow – this time, I used a Sharpie, to make the bow stand out. I drew a bold dot at the centre, to cover the strings ‘joining point. I then added two loops, and finally, finished the bow with two hanging ends of the ribbon. And just like that, the card was finished!

Final thoughts

I hope this idea inspired you to make your own Valentine’s Day cards this year. As you can see, you don’t need elaborate designs, great artistic skills and fancy supplies to create a cute card. And trust me – handmade cards will be appreciated a lot more than store-bought ones!
