Cross stitching is one of my favourite relaxing hobbies. Ever since I picked it up a year and a half ago, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed it. I have now completed dozens of small designs, and I’m always on the lookout for new projects to work on. I usually buy assorted cross stitch kits with cute designs and all supplies included in the box. A couple of months ago, I got a set with 12 small designs, one for each month of the year. The designs are inspired by flowers that bloom at different times of the year, and the set itself is branded with the Royal Horticultural Society. For a plant lover like myself, this kit is perfect! I decided to share my progress on this blog after every quarter. This time, I’d like to present the completed designs for April, May and June – featuring tulips, a bluebell and a poppy.
Contents of the box
The box itself was cute, shaped like a house, with a floral pattern all around.
Inside, there were 12 individual small packets, one for every month of the year. Each packet includes a leaflet with the pattern, a small piece of cross stitch fabric, yarn in assorted colours and a needle.

April – Tulips
I got this set in April, so it made sense to start with the April design. There was no embroidery hoop included in the set and the fabric was too small for any hoops that I own, so I had to adjust to cross stitching without it – I haven’t done that in ages!
I quickly completed the stem and the leaves.

Next, I added the colourful parts of the pink and orange tulips.

The design also included additional backstitches for the outline of the flowers, on top of the cross stitches. The outlines of both flowers, according to the leaflet, were supposed to be sewn with slightly darker yarn than the flowers themselves. However, the kit only included dark orange yarn, but not dark pink. Strange! Luckily, I have a lot of embroidery threads leftover from previous projects and was able to find some to use. Soon, the April design featuring tulips was complete.

May – Bluebells
The May kit included a cute bluebell design. Blue is my favourite colour, so I was excited to start cross stitching.
I started by sewing the stem of the flower, which didn’t take long to complete.

Next, I moved on to sewing the flowers. The shades of blue in the pattern diagram weren’t exactly the same as the colours of yarn included in the kit. It took me a couple of minutes to figure out which colour should go where. I’m not exactly sure I got it right, but the final result looks good regardless!

To complete the design, I had to add the outline of the flowers. It really brought everything to life. I love how cute this cross stitched bluebell turned out!

June – Poppy
The flower chosen by the RHS for June was a poppy. I started sewing by stitching the dark red parts of the flower.

Next, I moved to the lighter red parts of the poppy. I also cross stitched the stem of the flower.

Finally, I added the central part of the cross stitched poppy: the yellow and black details. This design didn’t include sewing an outline, so the June flower was completed!

Final thoughts
I’m really happy with this botanical assorted cross stich set. For just £9.99, I think it’s worth the money! So far, I only completed 3 of the 12 designs, and they already kept me busy for a few evenings. If you’re curious what other flowers are included in this set, make sure to check back in 3 months, when I’ll share the July, August and September designs.
This set would make a great gift for a crafty person. If you have a friend who likes flowers as much as they like arts and crafts, I’m sure they will love this set! I bought it discounted in a TK Maxx store in the UK, but I’ve seen it sold online on a few platforms too.
