If you’ve been following my blog for a while, you may have noticed my passion for cross stitching. I started with a mini design featuring a fox in a winter hat, which sparked my love for the craft. Since then, I’ve completed loads of cute, colourful designs. In this post, I’m going to collate all of them – hopefully, it will inspire some of you to try a new craft too! So far, all of the cross stitch designs that I’ve finished came from assorted craft kits, which included all of the necessary supplies and instructions. A great way to learn something new!
Mini Winter Fox Cross Stitch
This is the design that kickstarted my love for cross stitching. But not immediately! When I bought this pre-assorted kit, I expected to find a canvas with the design printed on top of it, and have a relaxing time sewing over the printed image. Oh, how surprised I was to see a blank aida and a leaflet with the design in a grid! In fact, I packed the contents of the kit back into the box and forgot about it for a whole year. I’m so glad I eventually gave it a go.

Mini Cactus Cross Stitch
The cactus design was another one of the mini cross stitch DIY kits that I bought at Hobbycraft. Small, but cute. I also let my creative juices flow and enhanced the original design with additional spikes made with French knots, which I learnt while working on a different sewing project.

Colourful Cross Stitch Parrots
The parrot design was the first larger cross stitching project I worked on. Also coming from a pre-assorted kit, this time bought at TKMaxx, it took me a little more time to complete than the previous, tiny designs. I also had to overcome some issues, with some of the yarn colours included in the set not making sense, and ended up buying some additional yarn to keep the design sharp and pretty.

Easter Bunny Cross Stitch
Next up, just before Easter, I worked on this tiny bunny design. Once again, I run into some issues with the colour of the yarn included in the box and used scraps of yarn leftover from the previous projects instead. It was a cute little project and I enjoyed working on something seasonal before Easter.

Colourful Hummingbird With a Floral Wreath Cross Stitch
The large hummingbird design is my favourite project so far. I love the vibrant colours of this design, and the overall composition of the wreath surrounding the hummingbird is just spot on. This time, the kit included yarn in perfect colours and I didn’t need to improvise, which was great. It was fun! I wonder if any design will ever top this one in the future and take over the favourite crown.

Mini Flamingo Cross Stitch
The small-size projects are great for rainy afternoons, and we’ve had a lot of those in London in the spring. Completing a design of this size doesn’t take more than a few hours, or two evenings. The flamingo wasn’t my favourite design to work on (a bit boring, isn’t it?) but it still brought me joy for a couple of days.

Monstera Cross Stitch on Printed Aida
I previously mentioned being surprised and confused when I realised that the fox design included a blank aida with the design printed on a leaflet instead. Well, after completing a few cross stitching projects that way, I actually bought a pre-assorted kit including an aida with a design printed on it. I thought it would be a relaxing project to work on, but actually, I found it much less satisfying than the other ones! Great option for beginners, if you’re looking for your very first cross stitching project, but not so great once you have a little experience under your belt. You don’t really see the design come to life as you progress through the colours, and it takes away the joy. I don’t think I’ll be buying kits of that kind again. Still, the design was cute and I bought that set because I absolutely love Monstera plants.

Mini Unicorn Cross Stitch
The unicorn design was another one of the time-killers for a rainy week. Much cuter than the flamingo, if you ask me – the colour scheme was closer to my preferences. Super simple to complete, but it looks quite cool!

And that’s all – for now. I will update this post with new designs when I complete them, so feel free to bookmark this page for your one-stop cross stitching inspiration! And if you have ideas for a creative way of displaying my creations, let me know. I love cross stitching, but for now, all of my completed projects end up at the bottom of a deep drawer. I feel like they deserve a better place.

the cross stitch projects all look amazing. You’re such a multifaceted person you. I completely agree that they don’t belong at the bottom of the drawer. Maybe consider putting or sewing everything together like one large fabric to make like a tapestry or tablecloth or blanky. It deserves to be showed off
