Happy Monday everyone! Can you believe that Easter is just around the corner? This year is just flying by! I’m still in my cross-stitching era, having discovered the joy of this craft at the end of 2023. This time, I completed a mini cross stitch project featuring a cute little chick inside a basket full of flowers. It felt like the perfect design for Easter and spring, which is now in full bloom. The project was a complete success and I managed to finish it over a couple of evenings.
Contents of the DIY cross stitch kit with a spring chick design
As usually, I used a pre-assorted DIY cross stitch kit. The set included all of the necessary tools and supplies (except for a pair of scissors, which are also handy when cross stitching). The kit came with a blank, white aida, a plastic embroidery hoop, yarn in assorted colours, a couple of needles, a threader and a leaflet with the diagram.

Starting off with light yellow
I followed the same strategy I usually do – I worked through the colours one by one. I started with the light yellow, and soon I had the chick come to life, along with the insides of the flowers.

Adding the silhouette of the basket
Next, I used the orange yarn to add the basket and its handle – or at least the little bits of the handle peeking through the flowers. I also added the details on the bird.

Adding the flowers
Then, I started adding the flowers. I completed all of the pink flowers first, and then proceeded to sew the blue and purple ones.

Adding the leaves
At that point, the project was nearly completed! As the penultimate step, I added the leaves in light and dark green yarn.

Another cross stitch project completed
And finally, I added the brown details on the basket and the chick’s eye. And just like that, another cross stitch project was successfully completed!
I really liked working on this design. It’s super cute, and even though it’s a mini design, it involved quite a few colours, which made sewing more fun. It was a great DIY project to work on just before Easter. Probably one of my favourite mini designs I’ve done! If you’re looking for fun, simple crafty projects to try this spring – consider cross stitching. It’s easy to learn in just one afternoon, and you can find loads of assorted cross stitching kits online – so handy when you don’t want to have to buy loads of supplies when you try to take up a new hobby. I can’t recommend it enough!
