The winter days are still long and cold, and there’s nothing better than a cosy evening with a cup of tea and a DIY project. For that reason, I’ve managed to complete quite a few cross stitch projects lately. The one I’m going to share with you today features a golden llama. I’m not sure it was meant to turn out that way, since on the packaging it looks more light beige, but it’s not the first time that yarn colours of an assorted cross stitch kit are a bit off. Either way, I enjoyed a couple of relaxing evenings while cross stitching the llama, and the design turned out pretty cute!
Contents of the cross stitch kit
This assorted cross stitch kit was no different than the other kits I had bought in the past. It included a blank, white aida, a plastic hoop, yarn in assorted colours (only 4 this time), a couple of needles and a threader. And naturally, the kit also included a diagram and instructions.

Starting off
Right off the bat, I could see that the colours of the yarn were a bit odd. I wanted to start with the beige-cream yarn to sew the body of the llama… but there was no beige yarn in the kit. Upon close inspection, I was able to spot that there were two shades of golden-yellow yarn. Both very similar, almost indistinguishable. I wasn’t particularly surprised, as this had happened before with previous cross stitch kits by the same brand.
I took the (slightly) lighter shade of yellow and began stitching the body of the llama. It ended up golden instead of beige, but it was cute nonetheless.

Next colours down
Next, I decided to stitch the colourful hearts and the saddle. It didn’t take long, as the whole design was small and simple. The colours were off again, though. The pink was supposed to be purple, and the teal was supposed to be a bit darker, according to the diagram. The differences weren’t as obvious as with the llama’s body, but I never understand why they can’t make sure that the shades of yarn included in the kits are close to the image on the box.
Anyway! I still had fun cross stitching, and the colours didn’t make it any less enjoyable.

Final stitches
Finally, I moved on to sewing the very last details. I added the shaded areas on the llama with the dark yellow yarn, and some extra hearts. I also gave the llama a cute face, stitching the details with pink yarn.
And just like that, yet another cross stitch project was completed. I don’t know how many of these I’ve completed so far, but it has been plenty! This golden llama may not be the prettiest design I’ve ever done, but that’s irrelevant. I still had some relaxing time whilst sewing the picture, and that’s all that matters.
