It’s Valentine’s Day tomorrow, and if you’ve left the house in the last few days, you must have seen loads of flowers and hearts in the shops. So, a cross stitch design including both of those things seemed just perfect for this time of year. That’s right – I’d like to share yet another cross stitch project I’ve finished. This time, it featured a colourful, floral heart. I loved the vibrant colours of that design and had a great time sewing it. This time, I approached the project with a different strategy than usually, and it made the stitching even more fun!
Contents of the floral heart cross stitch kit
As always, let’s have a look at the contents of the kit. It included a plastic hoop, a white, blank aida, a couple of needles and a threader. It also came with pre-assorted yarn, neatly wrapped around a labelled cardboard holder. And of course, there was a leaflet with the diagram and instructions.

Starting off
Usually, I complete my cross stitch projects colour by colour. I pick one shade of yarn and sew all of the areas in that colour, even the smallest ones, before I move on to the next one. This time, I decided to mix it up.
I started with the flower in the middle and worked my way outwards, focusing on the largest elements first. It wasn’t long before I had the first few flowers in place.

Stitching continues
I continued working on the design, moving from the middle towards the outer edges. The contrasting colours gave the picture a fresh look, and I loved it!

Almost there
I continued sewing and eventually was able to see the shape of the heart come to life. The heart was filling up with flowers, and only some minor details were missing.

Yet another project is finished
And finally, the whole floral heart cross stitch design was finished. This project was a complete success! Not only was it pretty, but also the supplies included in the kit were on point – I didn’t run out of any of the colours, which was a relief. I do wish the pale blue and the bright green were a tiny bit darker, to stand out from the white background a bit better, but it’s just a minor complaint.

Closing thoughts
I really enjoyed working on this vibrant cross stitch design. It felt like a great project for Valentine’s Day too – not overwhelmingly pink, but still featuring elements that fit the holiday: a heart silhouette and flowers. The varied, bright colour scheme of this design is one of my favourites so far! I also quite liked switching the colours whilst working through the project, instead of completing the colours one by one. I might use this strategy in future projects too!
