The Best Air Fryer Roasted Chicken Breast

The Best Air Fryer Roasted Chicken Breast

Today, I’m bringing you my absolute favourite air fryer recipe. The perfect, juicy, roasted chicken breasts. Cooking chicken has never been easier! All you need is basic seasoning and 25 minutes of time, and you’ll have your dinner meat sorted.

I’ve tried to perfect roasting chicken breasts in the oven and failed miserably multiple times. Perhaps it’s just my oven’s fault, but I’ve had countless attempts at baking the perfect chicken breasts and the results have always been the same – the meat took ages to cook and ended up dry and tough. It may sound like I overcooked it, but I swear I didn’t! When I cooked the chicken for a shorter time it was still raw in the middle. I’ve experimented with temperatures and cooking times and even bought a thermometer to verify the actual temperature in the oven. All for nothing. I still couldn’t find that perfect recipe.

When I bought my air fryer, the number one thing I wanted to cook in it was chicken breast. Classic, simple roasted chicken breast. I read through various recipes online and combined their most common parts into my recipe.

And it was a success! The chicken breasts came out absolutely delicious. Tender and juicy, bursting with flavour. Since then, roasted chicken breasts have been a staple in my meal rota and one of my most commonly cooked air fryer recipes.

Ingredients for air fryer roasted chicken breasts

  • 1 chicken breast
  • A dash of oil. I typically use either avocado oil or garlic infused olive oil.
  • Salt, pepper and mixed herbs to taste

How to roast chicken breasts in an air fryer

Pour a small dash of oil onto the chicken breast and massage it into the meat on one side. Sprinkle the chicken with salt, pepper and mixed herbs.

Flip the chicken breast over and cover the other side with oil and seasoning.

Pre-heat the air fryer to 180°C (360°F) for a couple of minutes.

Place the chicken breast in the hot basket.

Cook for 20 minutes (scroll down for mor detailed cooking time). Flip the chicken over halfway through the cooking time.

Once cooked, take the chicken breast out of the air fryer and let it rest for 5 minutes on a plate for the juices to evenly distribute. Don’t skip this step!

Serve with your favourite sides and enjoy.

Cooking time adjustments

I cook standard size chicken breasts for a total of 20 minutes (10 on each side). If you have a smaller than usual piece of meat, reduce the cooking time to 18 minutes. For exceptionally large chicken breasts, extend the cooking time to 22 minutes.

Air frying multiple chicken breasts at the same time

You can cook multiple chicken breasts at the same time. The maximum number of chicken breasts you can cook together is limited by the size of your air fryer. When cooking multiple pieces of meat, make sure to line them in a single layer with space in between them.

What to do with leftover air fried chicken breasts

I like to air fry a few extra chicken breasts to have some leftovers. They won’t taste as great the next day served on their own, but the leftover air fried chicken breasts will be great in sandwiches or salads. You can store your roasted chicken breasts in the fridge for 2-3 days.
